Bible Text: Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein.
LIFE POINT:
Meditation is a powerful activity of the mind. What we repeatedly think about eventually influences our words, our decisions, our attitudes, and ultimately our lives.
The world tells us to meditate on ourselves, our problems, our fears, our disappointments, and our desires. But the Bible teaches us to meditate on God, His Word, His promises, His works, and His faithfulness.
Godly meditation is not simply emptying your mind, it is filling your mind with the truth of God’s Word and allowing that truth to shape your life.
GODLY MEDITATION MEANS THINKING DEEPLY ABOUT GOD’S WORD Psalm 1:2 says . But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
The blessed person is not someone who never faces problems. Rather, the blessed person is someone whose mind is continually anchored in God’s Word.
When you meditate on Scripture, you are asking.
What is God saying to me?
What does this Scripture reveal about God?
What should I change?
What promise can I stand upon?
How can I obey this Word?
The Word of God should not merely pass through our minds; it should take root in our hearts.
CHILD OF GOD WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT CAN SHAPE YOUR LIFE. Proverbs 23:7 says. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
Your thoughts influence your emotions, your words, and your actions.
If you continually meditate on fear, fear can become your master.
If you continually meditate on failure, you may lose confidence.
If you continually meditate on what people have done to you, bitterness can take root.
But when you meditate on God’s promises, your perspective begins to change.
Instead of saying, “I cannot,” God’s Word reminds you. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.Philippians 4:13
Instead of saying, “I am alone,” God’s Word reminds you.
I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5
Instead of saying, “There is no hope,” God’s Word reminds you.
With God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26
GODLY MEDITATION BRINGS PEACE. Isaiah 26:3 declares. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Notice the connection.
Mind → Trust → Peace.
When the mind is constantly occupied with problems, anxiety grows.
But when the mind is fixed on God, faith grows.
This does not mean that your problems immediately disappear. It means that your problems no longer control your mind.
You begin to say , I may not understand what God is doing, but I know who God is. That is the power of godly meditation.
MEDITATE ON GOD’S FAITHFULNESS! Psalm 143:5 says. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
Sometimes, when we face a new battle, we forget the victories God has already given us. David remembered how God delivered him before.
When you remember God’s faithfulness yesterday, it gives you courage for today.
Take time to remember.
The doors God opened.
The battles He brought you through.
The prayers He answered.
The dangers He protected you from.
The people He used to bless you.
The times you thought you would not make it, but God brought you through.
Your history with God is evidence that you can trust Him with your future.
GODLY MEDITATION MUST LEAD TO ACTION. Joshua 1:8 does not stop at meditation. It says that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein.
Biblical meditation is not merely thinking; it produces obedience. If you meditate on forgiveness, you must forgive. If you meditate on love, you must love.
If you meditate on faith, you must trust God.
If you meditate on holiness, you must pursue holiness.
If you meditate on generosity, you must become generous.
The Word that enters your mind must eventually reach your hands, your mouth, and your lifestyle.
YOU MAY ASK WHAT SHOULD WE MEDITATE ON? Philippians 4:8 gives us a beautiful guide.
Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report think on these things.
Child of God ask yourself.
What am I feeding my mind every day? Because whatever you continually feed will eventually become strong. Feed your mind with God’s Word. Feed your spirit with prayer. Feed your heart with gratitude. Feed your thoughts with God’s promises.
And starve the thoughts that continually pull you away from God.
A PRACTICAL WAY TO MEDITATE ON GOD’S WORD!
Choose one Scripture each day. Read it, and read the verse slowly. Repeat it, say it several times. Reflect on it, ask what God is teaching you. Personalize it, and apply the truth to your situation. Pray it,
turn the Scripture into a prayer.
Practice it, dowhat the Word instructs. For example: Scripture: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1 Meditate:
God is my Shepherd. I am not abandoned. He knows what I need. He will guide me. I will trust Him even when I cannot see the way.
Friend that is godly meditation.
Beloved, your mind is a battlefield, but God’s Word is a weapon.
You cannot always control what happens around you, but you can choose what you allow to dominate your thoughts.
When fear says, “You are finished,” meditate on God’s promises.
When circumstances say, “There is no way,” meditate on God’s power.
When people reject you, meditate on God’s love.
When you are discouraged, meditate on God’s faithfulness.
When you don’t know what tomorrow holds, meditate on the God who holds tomorrow.
Psalm 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season.
The person who continually meditates on God’s Word becomes like a tree planted by living water stable, fruitful, and deeply rooted.
What occupies your mind will eventually influence your life. Therefore, don’t allow your circumstances to become greater than your God in your thoughts.
Meditate on His Word.
Remember His faithfulness.
Trust His promises.
Obey His instructions.
And let your mind become a dwelling place for the truth of God.
PRAYER:
Father, in the name of Jesus, help me to discipline my mind and fill it with Your Word. Remove every thought of fear, anxiety, bitterness, doubt, and discouragement that is contrary to Your will. Teach me to meditate on Your promises day and night. Let Your Word transform my thinking, strengthen my faith, give me peace, and guide my decisions. May my thoughts, words, and actions bring glory to You . Amen
