BIBLE VERSE : It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. Lamentations 3:22
LIFE POINT:
Beloved, many people wake up every day thinking it is by strength, wisdom, connections, or careful living that they are still standing. But the Scripture opens our eyes to a deeper truth: we are alive, preserved, and sustained by mercy of God Almighty.
The Bible does not say, It is of the Lord’s justice that we are not consumed, or It is of our good behavior.
It says plainly: “It is of the Lord’s mercies.”
Today I ask a simple but powerful question: What is mercy?
And I answer it boldly: Mercy is divine partiality.
WHAT IS MERCY?
Mercy is God withholding what we deserve and releasing what we did not earn.
Justice gives you what you deserve.
Grace gives you what you don’t deserve.
Mercy stops judgment that should have happened.
If God judged us strictly by our thoughts, words, motives, and secret actions, none of us would survive. Yet the Bible says we are not consumed. Why? Mercy stepped in.
Mercy is God saying,
I know the report against you, but I choose to spare you.
MERCY IS DIVINE PARTIALITY:
People struggle with the word partiality, but God Himself practices a holy version of it.
Mercy means God does not treat everyone the same way at the same time.
Two people commit similar errors; one collapses, the other is preserved.
Two families face the same storm; one is swept away, the other stands.
Why? Divine partiality called mercy.
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed.
Jeremiah did not say “the world” he said we. Mercy distinguishes. Mercy separates. Mercy singles out.
Mercy defies logic and explanation.
Mercy does not always make sense.
Mercy kept Cain alive when he deserved death.
Mercy spared David after adultery and murder.
Mercy restored Peter after denial.
There was no legal justification only mercy.
When mercy speaks:
Records are silenced, accusations lose power, consequences are delayed or canceled.
Friends mercy is the reason you survived what should have destroyed you.
Mercy is the reason we are not consumed.
The word consumed means completely destroyed, wiped out, finished.
Some of us should have been consumed by sin, consumed by sickness, consumed by mistakes, consumed by spiritual attacks.
But mercy said. Not yet. Not this one.
Every breath you take is proof that mercy is still speaking on your behalf.
Child of God mercy is renewed daily.
Mercy is not a one time gift.
It is daily allocation.
You did not survive last day of 2025 on yesterday’s mercy alone.
God released fresh mercy this morning for us to start 2026.
That is why: Yesterday’s failures did not disqualify today’s grace .
Last night’s tears did not cancel today’s hope
But we must respond to mercy with humility never pride. With gratitude never entitlement. With repentance never abuse. With mercy toward others because receivers of mercy must become dispensers of mercy.
The Lord Jesus said
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Beloved, if you are still standing, still breathing still hopeful, still moving forward, hear this clearly:
It is not luck.
It is not skill.
It is not connections.
It is MERCY
Mercy is divine partiality.
Mercy chose you.
Mercy preserved you.
Mercy is still speaking.
